Uncle Nearest 1856 is an American whiskey with a dark amber color. This variant is distilled in small batches, filtered by maple charcoal and matured for a period in charred oak barrels. This creates a buttery aroma of vanilla mixed with brown sugar, soft sultanas and a spicy note of cinnamon. Its flavour starts with caramelized notes, followed on the feet by savory oatcakes with more brown sugar and a hint of cut grass. These notes persist and continue to his aftertaste which has a lingering tone of mint leaves and soft, creamy milk chocolate and a final hint of spicy oak to close it all off.
Nice to know.
Uncle Nearest was Nathan Green's nickname for both friends and family and is known, among other things, as one of the first official African-American master distillers! It also seems that a certain Jack Daniel learned the trade of distillation from Uncle Nearest.
